🧪 New Lab and Clinical Features — Authentic Charting and Laboratory Practice in EdEHR

April 9, 2025 · By EdEHR Team

EdEHR’s 2025 update brings a new level of realism to simulation-based healthcare education.
This release expands both the EHR and LIS environments, giving students the tools to practice real-world documentation, lab workflows, and interdisciplinary care planning.

🏥 EHR Enhancements

The all-new Lines & Devices suite includes peripheral IVs, urinary catheters, enteral and nasogastric tubes, central and PICC lines, and tracheostomy/airway care — providing realistic procedural and monitoring practice.
Added specialized forms for Respiratory Therapy (RT) students to document ventilator settings and monitoring.
Introduced BPMH (Best Possible Medication History) for Pharmacy Technology students to support medication reconciliation and dispensing education.
Introduced comprehensive Maternity, Pediatrics, and Newborn care charting — including PEWS (Pediatric Early Warning Score) and detailed assessment forms — enriching simulation-based learning.
Extended Advance Care Plans and Clinical Order Sets to support broader interprofessional care planning and clinical decision-making.

EdEHR also broadens its Rehabilitation toolkit with new discipline-specific forms:

  • Occupational Therapy: Functional performance, ADL/IADL, and cognitive assessments.
  • Physical Therapy: Mobility, balance, and range-of-motion tracking with progress documentation.
  • Speech-Language Pathology: Communication, swallowing, and cognitive-linguistic evaluation notes.
  • Goals of Care / Treatment Plan: Interdisciplinary care planning and outcome tracking.
  • Functional Progress Record: Ongoing evaluation of rehabilitation goals.

🔬 LIS Enhancements

The Laboratory Information System (LIS) within EdEHR has also evolved to reflect real clinical lab operations:

  • Added Microbiology and Transfusion Medicine modules — chart culture results, gram stains, and transfusion records directly in the simulated LIS.
  • Improved Hematology and Urinalysis reporting for greater realism.
  • Introduced Accessioning tools to mirror real-world lab processes for Medical Laboratory Assistants.

Together, these enhancements make EdEHR’s clinical and laboratory environments more comprehensive and realistic than ever — helping students connect documentation with hands-on practice across every healthcare discipline.
